About us

AWA UK was established in October 2017 with an aim to connect Azerbaijani women living in the UK and to provide a social forum to reinvigorate their Azerbaijani networks.

It was founded by Mrs. Ulviyya Taghizadeh.

Activities of AWA UK include networking activities, cultural gatherings and fundraising events both in Azerbaijan and UK.

Azerbaijani Women's Association in the UK

The name of the Organisation shall be Azerbaijani Women's Association in the UK hereafter referred to as the "AWA UK".

Aim
To connect Azerbaijani women living in the UK by providing a social forum to reinvigorate their Azerbaijani networks, through networking activities, mentoring programmes and fundraising for supported charities.
Type of Organization:
AWA UK is a non-profit, non-partisan and secular organisation, open to members regardless of background.
Executive Committee:
The Executive Committee consists of the Honorary President, President, Vice President and Treasurer, who together direct the affairs of the Association and operate its bank accounts.
Honorary President
The position of Honorary President is held ex-officio by the spouse of Azerbaijan's serving UK Ambassador, playing an integral role in committee decisions and external promotion.
Appointment and Retirement of the Executive Committee:
Executive Committee members are elected at the Annual General Meeting. The President serves a maximum of two years with possible reappointment; other officers serve one year, renewable once.
Meetings and Decision-Making
The committee convenes at least quarterly with two weeks' notice. Three members constitute a quorum, and decisions require a majority vote among those present.
Membership
Membership is open to women born in Azerbaijan, women with Azerbaijani-born parents, women married to Azerbaijani nationals, and women with a genuine interest in Azerbaijan.
Application for membership
Applications are reviewed by the Executive Committee. An annual fee (currently £20) supports administration, event subsidies and promotional materials.
